I-41045 Montefiorino

detailed description:

Sasso Tignoso (1487m) is one of the few peaks of the Tuscan – Emilian Apennines of typically volcanic origin. The colour of the mountain derives from the contraction of the magma as it cools, turning from grey-green to the present red-marc colour due to the natural phenomena of oxidisation. Atmospheric agents have carved the rocky mass, creating pinnacles and towers, with some first degree sections on the western side. Its particular geological nature gives rise to a very particular type of flora not found in other types of terrain, and a careful eye can recognise gentians, buttercups, mountain primulas, red and yellow orchids and doronici cordate.
